Thousands of Fans Expected to Attend Round 2 of the 2017 FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship at Kota Surakarta 
CENTRAL JAVA, INDONESIA, 13 OCTOBER 2017 – Kota Surakarta, or widely known as Solo by the locals, welcomes the return of the FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship to Indonesia. The two-day race weekend happening 14 to 15 October 2017 from 10:00AM to 6:00PM (+7:00GMT) at The Park Mall, Solo, is expected to draw fans and enthusiasts from across Indonesia and the world to watch the hottest SuperMoto race in Asia.

Andrew Ching, Chief Executive of E-Plus Global, the organiser of the 2017 FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship, said that the continuity of the championship in Indonesia proves the country’s capacity in developing the industry and the sport. “Indonesia has always been an ideal country when it comes to two-wheel motorsport. Our presence here will further expand the championship’s status to motorsport enthusiasts around the world. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to H. Wardoyo Widjaja, SH., MH., the Regent (Bupati) of Sukoharjo, Bold Xperience, sponsors, partners, riders and all affiliates for their support.”

He added that the championship will be streamed live in HD on twenty3.tv powered by E-Plus Global, will attract global attention for the race. The Over-The-Top platform innovated by the company will provide free streaming and video-on-demand contents for worldwide fans.

H. Wardoyo Widjaja added that “hosting the championship in Central Java will draw the world’s attention to our beautiful city. Our collaboration with the organiser will elevate our status as a host city for motorsports, and hopefully, this will grow Central Java into a hub to practice this unique riding discipline.”

Tony Nagamaiah, General Manager of Malaysia Major Events, a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia), affirms that the championship is a key tourism driver for each host country. “Malaysia is proud to support the FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship being hosted in six countries. This home-hosted event has grown rapidly in the last three years in terms of spectator and viewership around the region. The Final Round hosted in Malaysia last year captured the imagination of fans all over the world. Our decision to support the race has helped promote our tourism economy, and I believe that the result is similar for each host country.”

He added that this year, Malaysia would once again host the Final Round of the championship on the 16 and 17 of December. “The Final Round will take place at Bukit Jalil, a world-renowned sports hub in Malaysia which was recently refurbished to host the 2017 Southeast Asian Games and numerous world-class events. I would like to invite all Indonesian fans as well as fans from all over the world to our beautiful country and witness the crowning of the 2017 season champion.”

Indonesia Round Race Preview

With United Kingdom’s Lewis Cornish leading the way, Thailand’s Trakarn Thangthong, Netherland’s Marcel Van Drunen, Malaysia’s Muhd Habibullah and counterpart Khairy Zakaria will face intense competition in the race at the top. While the race remained close for the top five riders, strong home advantage may pave the way for Indonesia’s duo, Pedro Wuner and Farhan Hendro.

Tomorrow will be the day we put our training to the test. I believe that we have grown tremendously after a rigorous training routine that involves physical, mental and skills development. I think we have a chance of being on the podium” said Pedro.

Farhan added that Team Samarinda D’Jagung remained optimistic towards the duo in improving their standings. “We have witnessed the intensity and capability of all the riders in Thailand. With home advantage and supporters rooting for us, this will be an extra boost for us to perform better. We hope that this race will bring us luck and turn the tides on the chart.”

Other notable riders would include Japan’s Team KYT Autorace Global Riders Naoto Takayama and Takashi Sasaki, as well as Philippines’ Team Kawasaki / Motul Racing Team, Kenneth San Andres. However, the future may still be bleak for veteran Hong Kong rider Tsang Wai Kei as he recuperates from an injured ankle.

Streaming for the championship on www.twenty3.tv will begin from 10:00AM to 6:00PM (+7:00GMT) on 14 and 15 October 2017.
